MESA, Ariz. – Legacy Sports USA continues to add to its already impressive list of Sports Directors, naming Tate de Laveaga Director of Boys Basketball for Legacy Sports Park, a 320-acre, multi-use family sports and entertainment complex that is set to debut in January of 2022 in Mesa.
Tate brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience to Legacy Basketball as a former collegiate and professional basketball player, competing in college for the William Jessup Warriors, and also playing professionally overseas in the Ireland Super League in Dublin. During his time in Ireland, Tate also coached young athletes ranging from ages 10 to 17 with the goal to develop their core skills and inspire them to be leaders in their communities.
In college Tate was elected to the Golden State Athletic Conference’s First-Team All-Academic team two years in a row, and he served as President for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the GSAC Conference, where he led and participated in advisory committees at the campus, conference and national level. His mission was to provide insight on the student athletes experience and offer input on rules, regulations and policies that impacted the lives of student-athletes across the United States.
Born and raised in Arizona, Tate grew up in Scottsdale and played basketball at Horizon High School (Scottsdale) and Westwind Prep Academy (Phoenix). He currently resides in San Tan Valley with his wife Kindal and the latest addition to the family, baby Bentley who is now 3 months old.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tate to the Legacy Sports USA family as our new Director of Basketball,” said Brett Miller, President of Legacy Sports USA. “He has a great background in basketball, not just on the court professionally, but also coaching and teaching young athletes to help them develop their basketball skills and life skills, which will be an integral component of Legacy Sports Park.”
Programming for Legacy Basketball will include tournaments, leagues, camps, club basketball and player development. Additionally, Legacy Sports Park will host numerous local and national 1X1, 2X2, 3X3 and 5X5 tournaments.
“Our goal is to bring families together by providing a world-class experience at a local and national level for the next generation of young athletes,” Tate said. “As a top destination for youth basketball, Legacy Sports Park is the perfect place to accomplish that.”
As plans for the opening in 2022 continue to grow, Tate is building a strong staff to help lead the program, which currently includes Justin Peterson (Tournament and League Director), Antonio Darden (Boys Basketball Club Director), Garrett Lever (Elite Camp Director/Adult League Director) and Desmond Howard (Player Development).
